The Board of Trustees of the Hollister School District took action on Monday night to extend the closure of all schools through May 1, 2020.

In preparation, the Hollister School District is planning to ensure that ALL households in the district will have a tablet, computer, or laptop in their home with internet access.

“Our basic focus is that we need access in every household,” Superintendent Diego Ochoa said. “In some cases, we have had to call home multiple times to get answers from families to make sure that we get devices prepared for all our students.”

Students in grades 4-8 will transition to online learning. Principals and teachers are working on creating lessons and assignments for their students. Staff is also learning to use online meeting platforms such as Google Meet, Google Hangout, and Zoom.

Students in grades TK-3 will continue to receive packets of work from the district through the pick up process already in place. These students will also continue to use the Footsteps 2 Brilliance online reading program. In addition, these students will participate in online meetings with their teachers to check on their progress.

On March 23, 2020, the district began the process of calling all 5,600 student homes. The district’s amazing secretarial support staff got the job done in three days. The district’s Informational Technology team, led by Branden Johnson, methodically sanitized and prepared each device for pick up. The team went school by school making sure that all the devices were working and updated.

The district is planning to hand out devices starting from Wednesday, April 1, 2020 through Friday, April 3, 2020 at all sites (excluding GH/HDLA). S

“We want parents to drive up to their child’s school, sign the device agreement, and drive off with their device,” Ochoa said.

The district will ask GH/HDLA families to pick up their devices at Ladd Lane Elementary School.

The schedule for picking up devices is:
