San Benito County residents probably notice heavy smoke in the hills near San Juan Bautista.
That’s because Cal Fire is conducting a prescribed burn, so there’s nothing to fret about. The burn started later Monday morning in the Prunedale area of the Gabilan Mountains south of San Juan.
The state fire agency expects it to be several hundred acres. It is being done as a preventative measure and to help train firefighters.
