Trial scheduled for suspect in Arco armed robbery

A jury trial has been scheduled to start Oct. 21 for the suspect in the November armed robbery at the Hollister Arco gas station.

Joshua H. Sandoval, 19, faces a jury trial set to start at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21. It is expected to last three days, according to court records.

A pre-trial hearing and trial confirmation are scheduled for Aug. 1 and Oct. 10, respectively, as well.

Sandoval is accused of robbing the Arco gas station in Hollister in November. He has been charged with felony robbery, felony threatening a crime with intent to terrorize, and six misdemeanors. The misdemeanors include counts of public intoxication, possessing narcotics, resisting an officer and entering a noncommercial dwelling.

The Hollister Police Department since the initial arrest has been seeking the public’s help identifying the second of two suspects in a robbery.

The defendant waived a preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for February. A judge at a preliminary examination decides if there’s enough evidence for a jury trial.

According to the police report from the Nov. 11 robbery:

On Nov. 11, a little after 2 a.m., two males entered the Arco gas station at 301 Gateway Drive, and both approached the counter. One of the suspects produced a large knife and demanded money. The store’s clerk feared for her safety and handed over all of the money that was in the cash register.

An extensive investigation including K-9 deployment was conducted but the suspects were not located that evening.

While conducting an investigation regarding another matter, officers were able to identify one of the suspects as Sandoval, who was arrested and booked on the charge of armed robbery.

The second male remains unidentified. He was described as a Hispanic male adult about 180 pounds with a thin mustache.  He was said to be wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket.

Anyone with more information on the robbery is asked to contact the Hollister Police Department at (831) 636-4330. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.
