SBHS provides update on energy program

A message from Climatec Regional Manager Tyler Girtman courtesy of San Benito High School:

We wanted to provide the community with an update regarding the energy conservation and renewable program with Climatec.

As a reminder, the program consisted of new LED lighting systems, building automation systems for heating/cooling, added air conditioning for the Library and Administration Building, and Solar PV covered parking systems.

The program is projected to produce environmental benefits that are equivalent to removing 219 cars from the road, preserving 31,000-plus trees and powering over 150 Hollister homes. In addition, the program will provide the District with $13 million in long-term budget savings.

We are happy to report that the interior and exterior LED lighting, building automation and air conditioning systems are 100 percent installed and operational. These energy conservation measures were installed on schedule, on budget, and have reduced our utility spend by over $172,000 to date. The solar PV system has been constructed and we are awaiting permission to partially operate the solar PV system soon while PG&E finishes their electrical distribution upgrades. Once PG&E completes their system upgrades then our solar PV system will be 100 percent operational.

We plan on inviting the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the energy conservation and renewable energy program once the program is finished. Stay tuned to future SBHSD newsletters for more information!
