Aromas-San Juan district considers solar panels at three sites

Aromas-San Juan Unified School District trustees tonight will consider whether to approve installing solar panels at the three campuses along with a track at San Juan School.

The district board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Aromas School, 365 Vega St.

On the agenda, trustees are weighing whether to approve spending nearly $3.5 million on the total project with the hopes of experiencing a net benefit of close to $5 million over a 29-year period, according to agenda documents. The proposed contract is with ENGIE Services.

The proposal calls for installation of solar panels within fenced areas at Anzar High School and San Juan School, and then under a canopy in a parking lot at Aromas School, according to the proposal.

The panels would go in a section on the northern section of the Anzar campus next to San Juan Highway, in a grassy field at San Juan School and the eastern parking lot of Aromas School. The work would involve removal of trees at Anzar and San Juan School.

Additionally on the agenda, the board will look at a proposal to support the concept for a track at San Juan School. The agenda notes that as part of the 50th year celebration at the school, the celebration committee has identified a running track project as a way to support the school. Trustees’ action Wednesday would be a “support motion” for the project.
