On April 29, the San Benito High School Transition Partnership Program and Workability team of Vanessa Klauer, Karen Zanella, Pam Sexton and Liz Pulcheon took a group of students on a job-shadowing field trip.
They started out with a walk from SBHS to Gavilan College’s downtown site, where they heard a presentation about the services available at the Hollister location. With some time to spare between scheduled events, the students were able to check out the new restaurant, the 4th Street Eatery. Here, they found out they offer free WiFi and staff invited students to stop by for a coffee or meal between classes at the junior college since the restaurant is only across the street from Gavilan. Students also heard about job opportunities with the restaurant.
Students continued to the courthouse where Judge Steven Sanders gave them a tour, explained the courthouse and the role everyone plays during a trial, and talked about the building process of the new courthouse.
Next, the students had lunch in the courtyard, provided by Domino’s Pizza. After lunch, the students took a tour of Fire Station No. 1, where they learned about the variety of roles and jobs available with a career in the fire industry.
Lastly, the students stopped at Ohana Shave Ice to hear about job opportunities coming up during the summer.
“We thank these local businesses for opening their doors to our students,” Klauer said. “They are providing our students with opportunity and exposure to what our community has to offer.”
