County OKs use of Vet’s Park for Carnival

With construction on its campus, San Benito High School is looking to hold its annual Carnival at Veterans Memorial Park this May.

The San Benito County Board on Tuesday OK’d the Carnival at the park in a 5-0 vote. Veterans Memorial Park is overseen by both the City of Hollister and San Benito County.

The annual event is normally held at the football stadium parking lot, but the school is continuing on with an array of facility renovations that won’t allow that this year. So the school proposed to move the event, scheduled for May 10-12, to Veterans Memorial Park.

Proceeds from the annual event go to the school’s Associated Student Body, for a leadership camp. The Carnival usually helps the group raise about $15,000, according to the discussion at Tuesday’s board meeting.

The dates and times for this year’s Carnival are 4-11 p.m. Friday, May 10; 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, May 11; and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, May 12.
