Library reopens after closure from water damage

After a closure since last Wednesday due to water damage, the San Benito County Free Library opened to the public again Monday morning.

The library opened at about 10 a.m. today, Head Librarian Nora Conte told San Benito Live.

“They’re finishing some things up still,” Conte said Monday at about 11:30 a.m.. “But we’ll get there. The thing is, we’re open and I’m glad.”

Local residents will have to wait until at least Monday to use the San Benito County Free Library after water damage from a broken valve prompted a closure.

The library was closed since Wednesday night when the issue arose. Edgar Nolasco, a deputy county administrative officer, told San Benito Live late last week there had been a leak Wednesday from the bathroom. When someone tried to fix it, a valve broke and caused “huge amounts of water” to gush out.

Friends of the Library Board President Susan Logue said earlier Friday that there had been a recent spike in bathroom usage at the county library, apparently from residents who don’t have access to other restrooms.
