City gets wheels rolling on Sally Street bicycle lane

Hollister City Council members approved funds to get the wheels rolling on a Sally Street bicycle lane.

Council members approved the item Monday in a 5-0 vote.

The approval was for a supplemental appropriation of $15,304 for on-call traffic engineering services to develop a bicycle lane design with traffic calming measures on Sally Street, while there wasn’t a timeline attached for expected completion.

The bicycle lane will stretch from Nash Road to Santa Ana Road when finished. The initial proposal from January called for the bicycle lane to go from Nash Road to Hawkins Street, but it was extended to Santa Ana Road to provide a continuous link between destinations such as the post office and San Benito High School, according to planning official Mary Paxton.

City staff members will facilitate two community workshops on the matter with design consultants on hand from Kimley-Horn. The cost for the community outreach portion would be $2,300, according to agenda documents.
