The Aromas-San Juan Unified School District Board unanimously approved hiring a new principal Wednesday but has not released the person’s name.
The board of trustees voted 5-0 on the appointment of a principal to replace longtime Anzar High School Principal Charlene McKowen, who is retiring after this school year.
“We’re excited,” said Board President Jennifer Colby. “We had a unanimous vote, so that’s good.”
Colby said the board made the decision in closed session and announced the unanimous vote in open session, but has yet to release the name in public.
She expects the next step is offering the position to the finalist. If all goes as planned, the district expects to possibly hold a meet and greet soon with the new principal.
Colby said the board wanted to get the hiring done relatively early so there is some crossover with McKowen, who is retiring after nearly two decades in the principal role.
The transition to a new principal has been in the works for about a year.
Superintendent Michele Huntoon was not immediately available for comment.
