San Juan OKs new fire contract with Hollister

San Juan Bautista City Council members this week approved a new seven-year fire contract with the City of Hollister.

The deal calls for San Juan Bautista to pay $228,000 per year with three percent annual increases.

The seven-year contract with San Juan Bautista includes an agreement for the city to lease Station No. 4 from the City of San Juan Bautista located at 311 Second St. to provide services to the western portion of San Benito County at a rate of $36,000 per year.

The initial contracts started in May 2013 and were renewed in October 2015. The current contract expired on Oct. 1 but has been continuing on a month-to-month basis. The new term will automatically renew for three successive one-year terms unless terminated pursuant to the terms of the contract, according to city documents.

Council members approved the matter 3-0 on Tuesday night with Councilman Dan DeVries absent along with Mayor Cesar Flores, who was at a meeting he attended that day in Long Beach over the state deeming the Mission City out of compliance with its housing plans.

The county approved a similar deal with its first-year cost at $1.85 million.
