A representative for the SNIP mobile spay and neuter organization reported that the group processed 61 dogs, 15 domestic cats and another 45 feral cats at a recent event in Hollister.
Kevin Barcellos from the organization spoke during the public comment portion of Tuesday’s city council meeting and reported the numbers. The SNIP bus came two weekends ago with the help of private funding.
The organization, which has held two privately funded events so far over six days, will receive city funding help for future events and is requesting additional help from the county so it can expand from every other month to every month in the city.
Barcellos said he spoke at the county board meeting Tuesday as well, and County Administrative Officer Ray Espinosa agreed to place the consideration on the next meeting agenda.
“Supervisors were engaged,” Barcellos said, noting how the SNIP group is “cautiously optimistic” on the matter.
Hollister City Manager Bill Avera expanded on the subject after Barcellos spoke, noting how another SNIP event is planned for March 2-3 but the location is up in the air.
