San Juan to celebrate history of Luck Gas Station

San Juan Bautista history buffs will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Luck Gas Station in the Mission City, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary as a town all year.

A commemoration and plaque dedication is set for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday at Luck Park in San Juan Bautista located at Monterey and Third streets.

Carl Luck owned the gas station in the Mission City. His family donated it to San Juan Bautista more than four decades ago, and it is now a museum.

The Native Sons of the Golden West and Grand President Carey Pearce will officiate the ceremony and dedicate a plaque on a commemorative rock donated by Graniterock.

After the ceremony, the organization will gather at the Community Center for a complimentary lunch and social with donations accepted. Members of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association will fire up and display some of their old engines as well.
