City wants input on idea for community center in old Leatherback spot

The City of Hollister is looking at developing the old Leatherback property into a community center with outdoor uses and will host a community meeting on the issue Wednesday.

The city owns the property where the former Leatherback company operated until shutting down in 2007.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St. The city plans to use a portion of its allotted Prop. 68 funding that must go toward park facility improvements.

According to an announcement from the city, snacks and beverages will be provided at the meeting.

The city will receive input on the type and location of facilities at the old “Leatherback” property located at the southeast corner of Hillcrest Road and McCray Street. A community center and some outdoor uses are identified as future uses in the draft Parks Facility Master Plan.  The grant encourages partnerships with community organizations for planning, planting of trees, public art etc.
