Next Saturday, the Rotary Club of Hollister is set for the 36th annual Mission 10 run in San Juan Bautista.
“This is our biggest fundraiser to support our No. 1 goal,” said Rotary President David Westrick.
That goal is to provide college scholarships for local students, and the organization awards just over $20,000 per year.
The Mission 10 is a big draw for a lot of reasons, the bucolic atmosphere being one. But it’s also a certified course, meaning the measurements are official and competitors can use the results toward other certified races, Westrick said.
“We love that San Juan Bautista plays a great host,” he said.
The event draws about 700 people, he said.
“It’s a big event,” Westrick said.
Westrick said the 5K is the most popular run, especially with people wanting to start the New Year on a healthy path, and that he plans to take part in that one himself.
He said the event as a whole is a team effort with the Mission and sheriff’s office as well to ensure public safety.
As for the club’s own results on fundraising, the organization provides scholarships but also does other projects such as recently fixing up the barbecue area of the San Benito County Historical Park.
