San Benito County is expected to get rain today through Thursday, and the San Benito County Office of Emergency Services wants to make sure locals are prepared.
The National Weather Service forecast for the Hollister area calls for rain through Thursday and a hazardous weather outlook overall. Some periods between now and Thursday should include heavy winds to go with the rain.
To go with that outlook, the office of emergency services released the following Monday:
Our region is forecast to receive wind and widespread rainfall over the next 3-4 days. To prepare for this event, you can take some simple steps to ensure that you are ready. These include, but certainly are not limited to:
1. Ensuring rain gutters are free of debris and clearing debris around your property that could be hazardous.
2. Securing loose items that may present a hazard.
3. As flooding is possible in areas prone to it during this event, prepare an emergency kit with necessary supplies and have an evacuation plan in place with your loved ones just in case (kits are helpful in case the power goes out as well).
4. Utilize sand bags. They are available at the San Benito County PW Yard (3220 Southside Road), Hollister PW Yard (1321 South Street), HFD Station #2 (1000 Union Road), Hollister Airport (60 Airport Drive).
5. During rain events, never attempt to cross flooded areas or moving water and remember to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown”.
