The San Benito County Historical Society has put out an official call for a new caretaker to succeed Don Pidd, the longtime caretaker who is retiring.
The following is the notice put out by the historical society for the position:
(1-1/2 miles south of Tres Pinos CA), the Historical Village is a collection of relocated historical buildings maintained by the Historical Society in a peaceful rural park setting. The Caretaker position is an opportunity for the right person(s) to step back in time and be a part of the Village’s unique educational experience.
The new Caretaker will be required to live in the Garcia House and, in addition to opening and closing the park gate every day, may perform other duties such as:
• Selected maintenance of Historical Village grounds and buildings
• Selected Village Docent activities
• On- site rental property management for the buildings rented out by the Historical Society (optional income opportunity)
These other duties will be determined based on the skills and qualifications of the successful applicant. The rent the caretaker pays for occupancy of the Garcia House will be reduced based on the duties they contract to perform. A knowledge of local history (or willingness to learn) and ability to positively engage with Park visitors is also important, as the Caretaker is often the face of the Historical Society for Park visitors.
Do you love people, history and the country life? Have a knack for grounds maintenance, carpentry and/or marketing? We’d love to talk with you! Please visit our website for further information: https://www.sbchistoricalsociety.org/historical-park-1.html Interviews will take place in November.
