Hollister City Council members are moving ahead on seeking a restaurateur to lease a vacant, recently renovated building at the Hollister Municipal Airport.

Council members Monday night approved moving ahead on a request for qualifications for prospective restaurant tenants at the old Ding-A-Ling spot at 155 Skyland Drive on the airport grounds.
According to Monday’s agenda, staff was seeking direction to issue a request for qualifications to select a restaurateur to enter into a lease for the renovated restaurant, and council members approved the item.
The city renovated the former restaurant building, with costs totaling about $65,000, on the airport grounds to lease the space for another eatery.
For the $65,000 in taxpayer funds when last reported, the costs had included $30,000 for the roof, $13,000 for a hood ventilation unit, $10,000 for electrical, $12,000 for plumbing. The funds come from the Airport Fund, which is separate from the city’s discretionary General Fund.
The small structure at 155 Skyland Drive near the airport office was built in 1942 as a Navy-owned structure.
The city-owned and funded airport in the past couple years has been planning and now executing that renovation — with the building in need of repairs to bring the small structure up to code.
