Hollister City Council members Tuesday approved a resolution to allow the Hollister Fire Department to apply for the Monterey Peninsula Foundation Grant for the purpose of seeking funding for a training facility at the city’s wastewater treatment plant property.

According to the agenda, the Hollister Fire Department will apply for a grant with the Monterey Peninsula Foundation. This Training facility will have a complement of multiple props for Hollister Fire Department training. The facility will also be offered and available to the law enforcement community for training use.
Additionally, offering usage to the community college programs for use is a concept that would generate funding for upkeep and maintenance of the facility. With the implementation of a training facility, the Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating would be reduced, ultimately reducing insurance premiums in the community.
Included, the Fire Department desires consent to begin the Request for Proposal process (RFP). The financial impact for the resolution is listed at $200,000, while the total cost estimate for the facility is $685,000. Estimated completion would be mid-2019.
