CHP releases details on serious bypass wreck

The California Highway Patrol released some details on an accident early Thursday on the Highway 25 bypass that involved major injuries.

At about 4:15 a.m., a Toyota Camry and Chevy Silverado struck near the intersection of the HIghway 25 bypass and San Feilpe Road, according to the CHP.

A 56-year-old Hollister man was driving the Camry, and a 51-year-old Hollister man was driving the Silverado. Both drivers sustained major injuries, the CHP confirmed. One patient was airlifted by Calstar to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas by helicopter, while the other was transported to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.

It was still under investigation as of late Friday. Neither alcohol or drugs appear to be a factor.

The CHP did not have details immediately available Thursday when initially contacted.

The accident was near an area of the bypass where Caltrans plans to construct a $6.9 million curve correction due to a high rate of vehicle collisions there.
