Rotary Antique Fair draws fans from ‘all over the state’

The Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista is putting in the 54th annual Antique & Collectibles Fair on Sunday.

Making the event particularly special, aside from its longevity, are the authentic antiques for sale at the Mission City mainstay. The event is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, with an appraiser on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“It’s antiques only,” said Leslie Jordan, this year’s event chair with the Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista, which puts on the event. “It’s not like a yard sale.”

It’s much more for fans of genuine antiques because this event includes goods produced prior to 1975.

“We get people from all over the state coming in,” Jordan said.

As of late last week, Rotary had about 70 participating vendors and expected another 10-15. The club allows vendors to sign up until the day of the event.

“Oddly enough, we have about a half-dozen to dozen new vendors, which I think is absolutely great,” she said, mentioning an antique train dealer as one of them.

Jordan described the event as a small fair in the town of about 1,800 people, while residents here will put on a town-wide yard sale at the same time.

“It’s just a great little town,” Jordan said. “We have restaurants and stuff going on all the time.”
