Butane lab suspect accused of possessing it, drunk driving

Hollister police arrested a man recently investigated for running an illegal butane lab on suspicion of possession the substance and driving drunk with two 17-year-olds in a vehicle.

According to a police statement released late Wednesday:

The Hollister Police Department arrested Juan Vasquez (43) and two juveniles for several charges.

At 7:02 p.m. July 16, Officer Umstead stopped a car for a traffic violation.  Upon contacting the driver, Juan Vasquez, Officer Umstead noticed Vasquez displayed signs of intoxication.

As Officer Umstead was conducting his investigation, he found two full cases of Butane. Butane, especially in this high quantity is often used to extract (THC) from marijuana plants.

Vasquez was recently investigated for suspicion of operating an illegal Butane Honey Oil lab (BHO) in his residence.

Two juveniles (17-years-olds) were in the vehicle with Vasquez.  The juveniles got out of the vehicle and refused to comply with Officer Umstead’s orders.  The juveniles were argumentative and interfering with Officer Umstead’s investigation.  They were detained and their parents called to the location.

Vasquez was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, child endangerment, committing a felony while out on bail, driving while his license is suspended and possessing more than 600ml of Butane.  The two juveniles were charged with obstructing an officer and released to their parents.
