Foundation gives $250k in grants to nonprofits

The Community Foundation for San Benito County on Thursday held its annual Grant Awards Night to hand out checks to 41 nonprofit organizations receiving more than $250,000 in funds.

It was part of the Community Impact Matching Grant program, with funding from the David

“One of the reasons that we’re here tonight is that, we like to support nonprofits, because we are a nonprofit,” said Gary Byrne, Community Foundation executive director, during the reception at the San Benito County Historical Park, “and what we’re doing tonight is giving grant money that has been given to us, back to you, because you do the programs in our community.”

This year, 54 nonprofits requested funding of over $400,000. With the help of the David & Lucile Packard Foundation, the foundation awarded 41 of them over $250,000, said Salina Chacon, grants and projects manager for the Community Foundation.

Representatives for the nonprofits receiving grants got up in front of the group and explained where the money is going.
