The latest election results released Tuesday tightened one local race and solidified leads in others.
The local elections office at 5:39 p.m. Tuesday released results with more than 2,600 additional ballots counted, with the total number of ballots now at 9.990. There are about 2,700 more ballots left to count, according to prior elections office estimates.
If the numbers hold, turnout for the June 5 primary is headed toward about 44 percent.
In the race for the open judge seat, Omar Rodriguez widened his lead for the second spot in the November runoff. As things stand, public defender Gregory LaForge has 28.03 percent of the vote, Rodriguez has 26.76 percent, Frances Henderson has 24.61 percent, and Robert Foley has 20.6 percent.
LaForge has 2,553 votes to 2,438 for Rodriguez and 2,242 for Henderson. Just 42 votes had separated Rodriguez and Henderson before the latest count.
Foley, meanwhile, announced weeks before ballots went out that he did not want the job.
In the race for District 3 county supervisor, meanwhile, the margin between first place Pat Loe and second place Peter Hernandez shrank somewhat since Friday’s last count. Loe now has 42.39 percent of the vote to 34.85 percent for Hernandez with 123 votes separating them.
Otherwise, not much changed in the local races. Jim Gillio is headed toward a runoff with incumbent Jerry Muenzer in the race for District 4 county supervisor. Gillio has 43.51 percent to 22.07 percent for Muenzer. Three other candidates appear out of the race in Rob Bernosky, Sandy Swint and Elia Salinas.
Sheriff Darren Thompson is still headed for an easy victory over Bill Hutchison. Thompson has 70.95 percent of the vote. Melinda Casillas also will cruise to a win over Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz in the race for county treasurer. Casillas has 71.73 percent of the vote and leads 6,371 to 2,511 votes.
As for measures: Measure A to implement an abandoned vehicle fee is headed to defeat while Measure B (hotel tax) and Measure C (cannabis taxes) are headed for likely victories.
