10_b_SecondInterimBudgetReport_0The Hollister School District is set to meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Hollister School District Main Office, 2690 Cienega Road.
Trustees will consider the following:
Superintendent evaluation: The superintendent, Dr. Lisa Andrew, will receive a performance evaluation.
Selection of a team-building consultant: Upon request of the board of trustees, two “Team Building” consultants (The Flippen Group and Innerwork) will be available over Skype to answer questions about their services, according to the agenda.
Approval of interim budget: According to the agenda, the Second Interim Report is a “projection of the financial position of the district at June 30, 2018, and actual expenditures and revenues as of January 31, 2018.” See the second interim budget attached.
Fair funding: The board will consider a resolution “Calling for Full and Fair Funding of California’s Public Schools” as part of a broader effort to “fund California’s public schools at the national average or higher by the year 2020, and at a level equal to or above the average of the top 10 states by 2025,” according to the agenda.
Approve Hollister School District Saturday Academy: According to the agenda, “Saturday Academy will provide additional academics for students, offer enrichment opportunities, recover lost instructional time and recover lost ADA revenue for our District. Education Code allows school districts to recover all day absences through a four hour (240 minutes) Weekend instructional program. Students will be positively engaged, they will be in a safe environment, they will be offered a meal and the program will be self-funded out of the ADA revenue that is recovered. Our teachers will be provided the opportunity to build deeper relationships through interactive, differentiated learning options.”
Transitional kindergarten admissions: According to the agenda, “Administrative Regulation 5111 sets the cut-off date for students to register for transitional kindergarten in the Hollister School District. Based on prior Board approval to move the cut-off date from December 2 to January 31, there is a need to amend the current Administrative Regulation 5111.”
Approval of student accountability report card: According to the agenda, “State law requires all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a School Accountability Report Card (SARC). The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. State law requires that the SARC contain all of the following: Demographic data School safety and climate for learning information Academic data Class sizes Teacher and staff information Curriculum descriptions Fiscal and expenditure data Much of the information is inserted by the CDE, along with the Principals’ and district’s input. The SARCs are made available on the HSD website in English and Spanish. They must be published there by February 1st each year.”
Public relations contract: The district will consider a $20,000 contract with Clifford Moss agency. According to the agenda, “The Hollister School District continues to have the communication goals of: 1) keeping our community informed, 2) creating a positive image of both the district and each school site, 3) retention/recruitment of students to our district and 4) recruitment of highly qualified staff to our district. Staff recommends to continue the collaborative work we began in January 2017 with Clifford Moss to achieve the above mentioned goals. This contract is for March 2018-December 2018 and includes: 1. Communications Strategic Plan coaching for each site administrator 2. Community Forum in October 2018 3. 3 Press Releases 4. LCAP Publication 5. State of the District Mailer 6. Consultation on website design and content 7. CSBA presentation in December Work is divided into three phases, with partial payment being made after successful completion of each phase.”
Consideration of program to retain commuter students: According to the agenda, “Approximately 75% of the students who attend HSD stay home before and after school, and during holidays and summer breaks. As more housing is developed here, there is potential for our enrollment to increase. However, the number of people who live here and commute to the San Jose/Silicon Valley area is also increasing, and many people are taking their children with them to that area for school. According to research, commuting with students is not healthy and not desirable for many reasons. In addition, HSD continues its goal to increase enrollment. Therefore, we want to pilot an Extensions program for before and after school programs to keep Hollister students here in Hollister. The Extensions program has the potential to fund itself, and may even generate profit. We are modeling our program after other districts who have successful programs. We took a survey which received over 1,550 responses, and included parents who have transferred their children out of the district. The survey gave us information on how to proceed with a pilot program, with the goal being that every school would have a district-sponsored, sliding fee scale Extensions program at their site in 3-5 years. This report shows the preliminary information about the proposed Extensions program.”
